Tыква "Фонарь Джека" (Jack O`Lantern).
Good not only for diet food, but also for Halloween crafts.
Early ripening, cold-resistant, high-yielding variety for table use. Fruits are round, moderately ribbed, weighing 4-5 kg and 25-30 cm in diameter.
The pulp has a great taste, bright orange, crunchy, very aromatic, with a high content of carotene and sugars. Nutritional and dietary properties are very high.
The variety has high transportability, excellent keeping quality and disease resistance.
Sowing in open ground: end of May - beginning of June (in holes of 2-3 pieces, to a depth of 5-6 cm, with a step between holes of 70 cm). After germination, thin out.
You can also grow seedlings: planting 20-day-old seedlings in open ground, when the threat of frost has passed. The main stem is pinched over 4 leaves, 1-2 ovaries are left on the lateral ones.
Landing pattern: 70x70 cm.
For good growth and abundant fruiting, plants need timely watering, regular weeding, loosening and fertilizing with mineral fertilizers.
Growing.
Pumpkin makes about the same requirements for growing conditions as a cucumber in the open field, but is characterized by greater resistance to adverse conditions, especially temperature, and therefore is better than others adapted to cultivation in the open field. Germination and growth of pollen occurs at significantly lower temperatures than that of cucumber (+ 14 + 15 ° C) and melon (+ 18 ° C). Warm weather and good moisture supply are favorable for growth, and pumpkin can grow without irrigation longer than cucumber. Due to its high sensitivity to wind, pumpkin is often recommended to be cultivated between corn plants. Pumpkin prefers loose, humus-rich soils and is responsive to organic fertilization.
Pumpkin does not tolerate repeated cultivation on other pumpkin plants, which must also be taken into account when growing it on compost heaps. You can speed up the harvest by growing seedlings in greenhouses. In 10 cm pots, 2-3 seeds are sown, seeding them to a depth of 2-3 cm. Seeds germinate at a temperature of + 15 + 20 ° C. Further, the temperature is maintained at 18/14 ° C (day / night). After 3 weeks, the seedlings form 2 leaves and are ready for planting. To increase resistance to unfavorable temperatures, plants are hardened.
Seedlings are planted in the ground in mid-May, when the threat of night frosts has passed. Standing density of zucchini is 0.5-1 plants per 1m², in creeping pumpkin species the planting density is reduced to 0.3 plants / m². Cultivation on mulch film has proven itself well. In this case, direct sowing into the ground is possible.
Sowing maintenance is limited to repeated loosening at a shallow depth. By the end of the growing season, weed control (hand weeding) is sometimes required. There is no need for special plant pruning.
Disease and pest control is of secondary importance. Only viral diseases cause tangible harm (vector control is necessary) and late autumn damage by powdery mildew.
Harvesting and storage.
The pumpkin is harvested before the first frost after reaching full ripeness. In fruits, a petiole about 10 cm long is left. Depending on the productivity of the plant (on average 4-5 fruits per plant), more or less heavy single fruits are harvested. The mass of individual pumpkins can reach 120 kg, and the yield is more than 1000 c / ha. The pumpkin can be stored from several weeks to several months. The optimum temperature in the first two weeks of storage is + 24 + 30 ° C, at this time ripening occurs and the crust hardens. After that, the storage temperature is reduced to + 10 + 13 ° C.
