Beetroot "KAHIRA".
An early variety intended for summer and autumn harvest. The plant has weak foliage. Bulbs have a thin, elliptical shape with purple red skin and a very slightly corky texture. The flesh is dark purple-red with no significant rings. This variety is resistant to bolting. Sow in April for harvesting for immediate consumption and from May until June for preserving (pickling). The growing time from sowing to harvest is 110 days.
Beetroot is not demanding regarding soils or location and usually it is grown in the second year after manure fertilizing. Except for clays or stony soils, it withstands all other soil types as long as they are well-aerated. It does require sufficient phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) in the soil. The sow date is dependent on the desired size of the bulb and the harvest date. It runs from April to the beginning of July. The sow rate is also dependent on the required bulb size and on the quality of seed used. Using precise sowing of quality mono-germ seeds requires no further manual thinning. For growing baby bulbs the sow rate is increased three times.
Harvesting starts as soon as bulbs reach the desired size. Varieties with round bulbs are more suitable for mechanical harvesting.
Weight per 1000 seeds = 9,0-15,0 g.
Number of seeds in 1,0 g  = 70-110.
